Weekend Marathon

I had a pretty hectic weekend. It has been awhile since I've had plans everyday. From Thursday to Sunday. No stopping. But it was all a good time. I'm still getting back in my "take pictures of everything in anticipation of blogging" mode. But for now check out my jam packed weekend.

these crazy kids...

Thursday: Spent the day volunteering with Nicole's church Elevation. They have something called "Love Week" every year where everyone goes out into the community of Charlotte to give back and spread the "love". I've known about it for awhile but this is the first year taking part. Me and the roomies all decided to volunteering renovating a house in East Charlotte. Painting, yard work, etc. Good times.

The evening was really long and exhausting. But so much fun. Met up with some friends to see a Michael Jackson cover band...but it rained out and no performance. So what do you do when that happens? Bar hop around the city and try to avoid the rain (the weekend ending up being so gray and rainy). Highlight of my night. Eating some amazing Queso at VidaVida. Good food moves me to photograph it, so it only makes sense that this is the only picture I have of the night.

Friday: Had a friend in town so I mustered up the energy to go out again. Hit uptown to Cosmos. Thought I was really being creative with my Snapchat right here. Plus my makeup looks on point.

Saturday: Early morning work. This time; Senior Basketball 3 on 3. I'm talking 50 and over running up and down the court (well half of the court) and shooting 3 pointers better than a lot of guys I see my age. They've still got it and it goes to show you that even though you get to a certain age, you can still do what you love. Just take care of yourself.

I spent my night with some of my favorite people. I met up with some of my best friends from college who are in my sorority with me for dinner and drinks afterward. It was so nice to catch up! The Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte is pretty nice. I had been to a couple places but not on a weekend. I love the casual atmosphere even though my attire didn't match. I wish I had gotten a full picture of my outfit that night. I was channeling the 90s with my high waited acid wash jeans, white pumps, and black blazer. I was taking it out for a test spin and it was a hit! Anyone else getting more into 90s fashion? Or just taking more risks in general?

Sunday I started my Job #3 as a hostess (more on that later), so my morning was spent training. And in the evening I watched the Giants play in their first game of the season. Its preseason, but still a win is a win. My GMen were looking pretty good out there! Lets hope that its a preview of great things to come. Anyone else overcome with joy that its time for football????

Hope everyone has a great week!

Gotta get down on Friday...

Its Friday!!! Work week over!!! Due to a half day dismissal from school on Tuesday and 2 days off from school due to snow, my week was pretty short. But it was nice to have a moment to relax and be trapped in my house for a couple of days.

I've been meaning to do a post reintroducing myself since I have gotten some new followers over the last month or two, so when I saw that Leslie from A Blonde Ambition was having a "Getting to Know You" link up I though that this would be the perfect chance, plus maybe get to know some more awesome bloggers!

But before I tell you some things about me, myself, and I, a shameless plug has to happen. I still have my GIVEAWAY on Frikken Duckie. Check it out! You have a really great chance to get a fab Beyonce' shirt. I am currently obsessed with her and the album has become my "getting ready" music. Love her!

So I'm Nikki and I live in the beautiful city of Charlotte, NC!!! I work as a teacher assistant at an elementary school and I am in preparation to start my Masters so I can become a fully certified teacher! I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Communications and wanted to be an event planner. I never thought my life would head in the direction of becoming a 4th grade teacher.

I'm an only child so I am very close with my parents. My father is in the military so I spent my entire life moving all across the country. I've lived in California, Hawaii, and even Japan for a little while. This definitely has had a huge impact on my love for travel and my desire to explore new places. Guess that'w why as soon as I graduated college I headed down to Orlando for an adventure.

I love selfies...

I have had my blog since April 2012. 2 years is coming up fast! I started this blog originally out of shear boredom. I was living in Orlando, bored with my job, and wanted a place to vent. Once I saw that there was a whole blog community out there I was hooked. I immediately started reading other blogs from women from all walks of life and different backgrounds and even better, women who were like me. In my 20s trying to figure out my life!

I currently write about food, fashion, and the fun I'm having back in the QC. Check out my Instagram for my real time shenanigans!

Random Tidbits

  • Coffee makes my world go round!
  • My hair changes all the time. My blog shows the evolution of all my styles.
  • I'm Terrified of Frogs!
  • Cooking is relaxing for me. Apparently I'm weird because I think that way.
  • I’m Guyanese-American. My dad is Guyanese and my mom is African-American
  • Love watching Sports. NY Giants! Miami Heat! Duke!
  • I'm a shoe junkie. Heels, converse, I love it all.
Well that's all for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

XOXO

Panthers no longer on the prowl

Hola!

Did anyone feel like this past weekend went by super fast? I don't think I even processed Saturday let alone Monday. I feel like January has already started going in hyper drive. But what little time I did have this weekend I spent hanging out with friends and watching the Panthers in the playoffs! It was such an exciting time in Charlotte. Everyone was so pumped to see the Panthers against the 49ers. My Giants did not make it anywhere this year (which is sad, but they played awful this season) so it was only right to support the home team. I loved how much energy the city had coming from the fans from both teams. The bar my friends and I went to had a wall of TVs which made it amazing to watch the game. Unfortunately the Panthers fizzled out in the second half and lost, but I still enjoy a good game of football no matter who is playing. Get me some beer, wings, fries and I'm a happy camper!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Brrrrrrrrr

Hope everyone in the path of this polar vortex stays warm and safe on the roads tomorrow. Does anyone really know what a "polar vortex" is? I looked it up and all I got was "blah blah North Pole winds, blah blah blah freezing temp." All I know is that its supposed to be so bad we have a 2 hour delay for school tomorrow. I'm a little sad that there is still no snow, but up against this wind chill I wouldn't want anything else to deal with in the morning. 9 degrees????? That's insane!! For North Carolina I mean. I'm sure in Boston or Michigan that is pretty normal (I don't envy you) but here in NC it is UNACCEPTABLE. I wish that school/work would just be cancelled. Imagine all the things that I could be doing instead of bearing the cold...

Guess I will have to save these for another day.

So what are some things you would rather be doing instead of going to work/school in the cold?

Movin and Shakin

So its Monday again... but its the Monday before Christmas and I'm off of work!!!
I am already enjoying this break, but I had a pretty chaotic week leading up to it.
But when it comes to my weekend. It was pretty busy as well.

one//I went to my first Hockey game on Thursday (that still counts as sort of the weekend) and I had a blast. Charlotte Checkers had Teacher Appreciation night so of course I went with my BFF who is an amazing 4th grade teacher, BJ!! A whole crew of us went and to top it off it was $1 beer night. It was such a win! I definitely will be going to another one!
two//Always a good time hanging out with one of my besties. Hockey games are colder than I thought, so I found it interesting that I had to stay bundled up like I was outside.
three//Friday night was party time! The warm weather was upon us so it was a great night to not freeze and put on something cute! Uptown Charlotte was busy and it was such a good time!
four//Such a fun Friday night meant Saturday was strictly recovery. Chipotle is my recovery food. Yes I had it 2 days in a row and no I don't feel bad about it. My addiction is real. But it helped and by Saturday night I could function normally.
five//I woke up Sunday morning doing some last minute packing and cleaning before I headed to D.C. This is the first time in awhile flying to visit my parents. Usually I drive so I can pack as much as I want and bring back a large amount of shopping. But I had to be strategic about my bag. If I wear all my bulky stuff that saves room!
six//My flight was so empty. Since it was 2 days before Christmas I thought it was going to be a animal house. But it was very quick, easy going, and stress free. I guess Monday and Tuesday will be the days of chaos. Glad I'm already home!!!

So the next couple of days will be spent hanging out with the folks and enjoying the Holidays. I will be preparing posts, but probably not posting anything until this weekend.

Hope everyone has an amazing holiday!

XOXO

New Life

Hope everyone had a great Sunday.
My weekend was pretty low key, but with one big event!
I'm ready for this week to get started because everyday that passes means I'm closer to Winter Break and a full 2 weeks off of work!!! Woot woot!

I brought out the new shoes Friday and Saturday. The weather last week was crazy! It was in the 70s on Thursday and Friday so Friday night was spent letting my feet out and showing off some cute flats I picked up at Old Navy during Black Friday. I'm in love. I'm already making plans to order more around Christmas. Hopefully there is a nice after Christmas sale that I can take advantage of! I had also been looking for Cognac riding boots forever. I've probably mentioned it once or twice. But I finally got them! Avenue is a plus size website that caters to my lovely calves. They are super comfy and I'm so glad they go with most of my wardrobe. I think I may have to get another pair in black.

Excuse my grainy pictures lol. I spent most of my Saturday in the hospital. I was supposed to go to the ACC Championship game (Florida State vs Duke) but I found out very early that my friend Sabrina was giving birth! 10 days early!! The last time I had been to the hospital in Charlotte was when my other niece was born 6 years ago. So trying to find the right place was quite a journey. The 8th floor was so elusive that only 2 elevators could get you to it, and we pretty much found every single one that didn't. It was such an accomplishment when we were able to click the elevator button and make it to the maternity floor!

Welcome Sebastian Joel to the world! He is so cute and has a head full of dark black curly hair. At 21 inches long he is all legs and I already can tell he is going to be tall like his dad. I was so proud of my friend Sabrina. It's so crazy to see her as a mother. Now she is always going to be a 2 person deal whenever I want to hang out. But I'm so excited for her journey. The hospital was beautifully decorated for the holidays and even Santa made an appearance that night. I thought the Christmas trees in all the waiting rooms were gorgeous. I wish I could get my tree to look like that. Blue and green actually looks really nice together. A mental note for my mother. She changes her color scheme for the tree every year and I think this one would be nice.

Sunday was really lazy. It was cold and a bit rainy. I prepped food for the work week and made a delicious dinner. If you haven't tried the Kraft Seasoning Packets you really should. I made some Southwest Chipotle Chicken that was tasty. I'm looking forward to leftovers! Football was pretty crazy. A huge storm hit the north and it was snowing almost everywhere north of Virginia. You could barely see the players or the field during the Eagles game. Constant flow of snow the whole game. I felt so bad for the players. I makes me think how crazy it is for the Super Bowl to be played in NJ. There is definitely a possibility for it to be like that during the game. It's New Jersey after all.

Happy Monday!

XOXO

Weekend Woes

My weekend was pretty lack luster.
Despite me flying to Boston to meet up with one of my favorite people,
road tripping to New Jersey and New York,
spending 2 days house hopping and even playing
"Who dressed the least appropriate for this weather?",
my weekend was pretty dull.

And now I'm sick.
I have a mild case of Bronchitis.
And mixed in with my asthma its not a good time.
So now I'm back, at work (because its not contagious) hiding my horrendous
coughs in the work room with the copy machine.

I haven't really had to desire to post, but I did make the promise to myself I would at least post once a week until my life decides it wants to get back on track.

Now I'm off to go get my car serviced.
It decided not to start yesterday when I wanted to go to Urgent Care.

Hope every has a much better week than I am starting to have!

I Whip My Hair...

Happy Friday!

Finally!
I'm very excited about this weeked;
I'm heading to Blacksburg, VA in a couple hours to enjoy some Virginia Tech Homecoming festivities. Everyone keeps asking me why I'm going...
*cue Damian* "She doesnt even go here!"
I spent lots of undergrad weekends there and some of my closest friends went to VT,
so any chance I get to meet-up with them I will.
Plus I get to do that 2 birds with 1 stone thing and take care of some sorority stuff as well.
As far as packing for the trip to VA I need mainly one thing.

Elastic headbands so I can tame my new do!
What do you think?

I decided braids were the way to go!
They are fun for the Fall and I'm channeling my inner Dionne.
I'm excited to play around with styles! Loving the bun so far!
After this weekend I hope to have more full length pics of my long locks!

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

*birthday is in 5 days*
I think my backthatazzup songs are appropriate for the weekend!

Good Times with Good Friends

This was a weekend/week of celebration!

Saturday was spent celebrating the union of my friends Keshia and Darius in Greensboro.
The wedding was so beautiful and the reception was so much fun!
We were definitely the "Turn Up" Table!!
So much food, drinks, and dancing.
And to top it off there was strawberry wedding cake...yum!!

Before that a couple days previous we all celebrated my girls Tiffany's birthday!
It was a surprise thing so we all gathered to have drinks at Osso in the NC Music Factory.
She was so surprised and excited to see us all there.
We were able to enjoy the night and everyone's company.

It was a very low key weekend (Sunday I sat and watching football all day!) which I was thankful for because this past week was so busy!

Next weeks adventure: Virginia Tech for their Homecoming and early birthday celebration!

Stay Tuned!

one The happy couple Keshia and Darius!
two The beautifyl reception decoration. Purple and White motif!
three Me and my other married friend Tiffany

Bachelorette Party Weekend!!!

This weekend was one of my friends Keshia's Bachelorette party.
When she asked my bestie Nicole to plan her party I immediately wanted to help.
Event planning is what I would love to do for a living!

Being a host can be fun if you plan every detail, and of course my Type-A butt helped Nicole do just that.
Everyone knows that I'm always down for a good party,
but a lot of time and effort definitely went into making sure this party was memorable.
We planned to start at H&M (where else are you going to have a great party)
for all the pregame festivities.

We welcomed everyone with drinks and light and hors d'oeuvres.
I think our spread looks great! Shout out to my bestie Nicole for the set up!

As people arrived we made sure to start the party as soon as they walked through the door.
Jello shots upon entry!
We plan on implementing this "toll" anytime we have a "turn up" at our house.
You are never too old for a Jello Shot!

I was most excited about everyone using the Photo Booth.
I was going to buy some bachelorette themed pieces, but I found of them to be degrading and a little "extra" so I didn't get them. I don't know anyone who was going to be using the "dirty sl*t" sign willingly.
So then I decided to create my own.
I tried to make them as fun as possible.

Overall the Photo booth was a big hit!
I threw up some hot pink paper on the wall and let everyone go crazy!
Ladies were using everything from the feather boa to the smiley face "friend".
I'm taking all the pictures we took to make a scrapbook for Keshia as part of her wedding present.
I think she will really love it.

We played a couple of games which went over really well.
If I ever get a chance to plan another bachelorette party I will definitely use them again.
All I will say is that they included shirtless men and lots of candy. LOL

There was dinner and a trip to the club after all of this,
but the highlight of the night was definitely our house.

All in all is was a good night.

How was your weekend?

XOXO

My Weekend was better than your weekend!

I had a busy weekend.
I loved every moment.
Had some great time with some great friends.
Even though the weekend is over, I have some fun things to look forward to this week including a Bachelorette Party and a Maroon 5 concert.
If I'm blogging you can always catch me on Instagram (@MissNewBourgie) or Twitter (@MissNewBourgie). Its very easy to keep tabs on me.

Hope everyone has a great week!

one World Market has a ridiculous beer collection. It was so hard to decide. So we ended up getting some sodas instead. We stuck with good old Yuengling for tailgating.
two Friday night was spent at the Food Truck Park and I tried The Tin Kitchen for the first time.
three While tailgating I was introduced to the Do-Que. Donuts topped with barbequed pork.
Survey says: NO. Never again.
four Saturday night I was in NoDa (North Davidson Art District) and dined at Cabo Fish Taco and hit up a few bars. Yum Yum Yum!
five Me, Kayla and the Bestie Nicole at Food Truck Friday. We waited in line for 40 minutes for food but it was worth it at least for me)
six Pork Belly Tacos from The Tin Kitchen. They were amazeballs!!
seven The only other person that has more school spirit than me is the guy bestie BJ! Tailgating was a blast with him!

My Weekend!

And its Monday again...
This past weekend went by so quickly!
I swear it was just Friday.
But time flies when you are having fun and I guess that's the case this time.
It was nice to actually do something with friends and just be out and about in the city.
The weather was amazing too!

Saturday
one My linesisters, Shamecia (left),Sabrina (middle) and I on our Day Date!
We all live in the same city but barely see each other.
We are definitely going to change that!
two After lunch we stopped at a bakery and had some amazing cupcakes!
We sat down and talked about Sabrina's upcoming baby shower!
three Shopping for fashionable maternity clothes was the next thing on the agenda. I wore the wrong shoes to walk around the mall in :( Blisters happened. But at least I looked cute in them!
four Ru San's was the restaurant of choice for lunch. I hadn't had sushi in so long so I was so ready!

Saturday Night/Sunday
five The weekend was good to me hair wise since I had freshly taken out my weave on Friday.
I miss it! But I rocked this bun!
six A group of us made it out to Carolina Ale House and it wasn't bad! We tried the loaded fries Carolina style and it was very interesting. Pulled pork, BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheese. Not my favorite but it was nice to say I tried it. I'll stick to my regular order.
seven How many Ale Houses are there? So far the best ones have been in Florida. I used to eat at Orlando Ale House every week! The best everything!! Especially during Football season!
eight After work I headed to my friend Aleesha's house for dinner. She whipped up a quick chicken fettuccine alfredo and it was delicious. Top it off with some wine and we are in business!

XOXO

My Weekend

This weekend was very low-key
And I loved it.
I slept in, did some grocery shopping, and caught up on my DVR.
Nothing riveting but since the weather was amazing I was also outside a lot too.
Having a porch is so awesome!

Some other highlights.

(yes that is my finger. Love my photography skills)

Coachella was this weekend and since I obviously couldn't go I was happy to utilize Youtube's live feed.
Some of my favorites this weekend were:

Allen Stone
Major Lazer
Janella Monae
2 Chainz

This isn't a big deal but on a Friday delirious from Wal Mart I got really excited!
So I saw for the first time that Arizona Tea has CANS.
I was seriously excited since I am addicted to their Green Tea.
The 99 cent can you can get anywhere was a go to whenever I stopped for gas, but I never finished it.
I think these cans are perfect!
But yeah....I may be a little late. Did anyone else know about these?

Sunday Night dinner.
Cooked by Moi.
My secret: Those Kraft Fresh Take breading things. I think they are genius and delicious!
I recommend the Rosemary and Garlic mix.
So yummy that I made it with Chicken and Tilapia.
I got a thumbs up from my roommates!!

Now its back to the grind.
Working my 2 jobs and still settling into the house
*rolls eyes*
Yes I still haven't FULLY moved in.

No Luck of the Irish

This weekend was pretty laid back. Stayed out of the St. Patricks madness. Not because I didn't want to, but more because of funds. I didn't budget it in with buying stuff for the house. Y'all are going to get sick of me talking about this house! LOL I'm just so excited!

Here's a quick rundown:
1. First dinner made in the new house! I cooked some Turkey Burgers, waffle fries, and some baked beans! Topped it off with a cold Yuengling and it was a successful dinner. We sat in at the dinner table with no phones and everything! Nice time chatting and not on social media. After I took this pic of course!
2. Decorating the house is a slow and steady process. I predict the house won't be furnished fully until around the summer. But for now the guest bathroom is going to have a "zen" feel. Red and black and promoting "peace and harmony".
3. Saturday night we had a little gathering. I spent most of my time not on my phone so I didn't really take a pictures like usual but we had some drinks, played some games, and chatted about life. My team won Taboo (of course) and I was so excited to have gotten "Amazon". The connection is that the Amazon Woman is the mascot for my sorority. I thought it was pretty awesome that I guessed it right.
4. Geronimo (my baby) hit 90,000 miles on Sunday. Such an achievement. He has been up and down the East Coast on some fun road adventures. But he has been taking a break, and hasn't been on the open road since January. Put come April, he may be heading back out!

Hope everyone had a good week!

How Eventful...

Friday Night was spent having a low key evening of dinner and movies.
Greg and I ordered Chili's To-Go and got some Redbox movies.
Taken 2 was awesome!
Earlier in the day Greg and I were discussing what we should do for our date.
That text message is what he came up with lol.

Saturday night we went out.
The trio (me and my best friend plus boyfriend) went out to club Label.
All I can say is that it was quite an interesting night.
Duke was also playing Carolina (and won!) so I wore Cobalt Blue completely by coincidence.
As usual we had our photo shoot before we left. Too funny!

Sunday night was recovery time.
Had some wings at Hickory Tavern, where we watched the Pistons play the Clippers.
Did anyone else see that crazy dunk???? It was awesome.
Its being called the dunk of the year!
We also had a long conversation/quote session about Mean Girls.
That movie is one of the greatest!
I found this Instagram post with all the best quotes.
My favorite is "She doesn't even go here!!!"
And no weekend could be complete without a trip to Target.
We have been on a hunt for a nice patio set and I saw this one.
I thought was really cute! It even comes with the umbrella!

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!

XOXO

Its Monday again...

Well its Monday again...time to go back to work.

Maybe not me...I decided I needed a personal day to do all my household stuff that I haven't been able to do.

My last day off was two Tuesdays ago. I need this day!

Some awesome shopping and getting my hair done are also on the list.

But I did have a really good weekend.

One of my bestest friends ever BJ had his birthday house party! So Saturday night was dedicated to him.
Its always a good time when we all get together.

So Greg, Nicole, and I headed over there to drink, dance and be merry.

1. Me and Greg with our regular bathroom pic
2. Flip Cup...Ladies vs Men and the Ladies were triumphant!
3. The Dos Equis guy was a topic of discussion for some reason when we arrived and yes that is a BB Gun in Nicole's hands!!
4. BJs birthday gift; Crown Royal Maple (tasted disgusting)
5. All night BJ and Greg quoted movies! Glad he has someone to do that with besides me!
6. "No one knows what it means...but its provocative" "Gets the people going!"

XOXO

My Weekend!

My weekend was very short. I basically worked the whole time....story of my life these days.
But there was a nice little surprise Saturday afternoon....SNOW!!!

It literally came out of nowhere and for the first couple hours I was not happy about it.
But then I realized that its kind of awesome and I hadn't seen snow in almost 4 years! Not counting my little visit back to Charlotte and being snowed in in 2009, and PA at the beginning of this month.

I am a constant weather checker and the news said that it was going to be too warm for it to snow. And when you live in Charlotte that's usually true. Up in the mountains it snows all the time and its inches upon inches. Down here, nothing ever sticks.

But after work on Saturday I walked out of the Rec Center to a literal blizzard. Wind blowing snow everywhere. Geronimo looked so sad (as if a car had feelings) and I wanted to just get home safe.

Now being that I live in the South it is always a giant headache trying to drive in snow; that's because people STILL haven't learned how! They are either driving 2 miles an hour holding everyone up or speeding down the road at like 80 miles an hour in a SNOW STORM I guess trying to get home faster.
Both are terrible ideas and I try to avoid them at all cost.

The snow stopped after about 3 hours and the evening was beautiful with all the fresh white stuff to play with. I had a birthday dinner and outing that didn't get cancelled despite the snow so I was able to enjoy the quiet streets. Uptown was pretty dead. I guess no one wanted to deal with the cold AND snow.
One is enough in Charlotte.

I do wish that I had gotten the chance to stay inside though and cuddle up in bed and read.
That's what I really want to do when it snows, not go to work or out to dinner.

Oh well, maybe next time.

XOXO

Awesome Weekend

Happy Monday!

I just returned from work and I wanted to write a quick post about my weekend. It was actually really awesome and busy from start to finish. Greg and I had a really busy work week so we didn't get to see each other that much. He made a point to surprise me with a date night Friday night and then see where the rest of the weekend goes. After work, movies, Football, and dinner I have to say it was a very successful weekend!

1. It was a rainy Friday so my outfit had to work with covering my hair (no frizz here). I simplified by wearing a sweater with a coral sheer top, jeans and some heeled boots to dress it up!
2. Greg always tries to out dress me when he takes me out on dates but I absolutely love when he dresses up! A tie is usually a must for him!
3. Greg surprised me by taking me to a small local theater that serves dinner while you watch the movie. These places are starting to become popular all over but I loved that this one had only 3 theaters that sat up to 40 people. It was nice and intimate. We watched This is 40 and it was hilarious!
4. Our evening was capped off spending some time with out friends Sabrina and her husband Wille. There was a surprise visit from one of my sorority sisters Nicole as well! Sabrina finally got a lesson on how to use her Espresso machine from Nicole so Caramel Cappuccinos and delicious Chocolate Chip Walnut cookies ended the night!
5. Battle of the Sexes is actually a pretty hard game. The women won of course but not without a good fight. I swear the questions were harder for us than the men. Even with my knowledge of sports and movies, it was still pretty tough.
6. Saturday night was date night at my favorite place called dish (I'm planning on doing a whole post on this place because I love it so much!) Great southern home cooking was exactly what we needed after both working a long day! I tried the meatloaf for the first time and it was tasty while Greg decided to stay healthy and get the blackened chicken.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
